Where i'm from

Where I’m From

I am from the white shutters on Pioneers Court
I’m from hopscotch with the kids in the neighborhood
I’m from scraped knees from learning to ride a bike
I am from Pattie and Jeff
From two older sisters and a niece
I’m from church every Sunday
I am from Thursday afternoons with my Mimi,
Sitting on her lap as she told me stories, and taking her black and brown trash cans to the curb
I am from pancakes at Bob Evans on Saturdays with my dad
I’m from gardens full of daffodils and roses
I’m from watching my mom crochet blankets
I’m from walking up to Graeter’s on summer nights after dinner
And getting chocolate ice cream all over my clothes
I’m from playing on the swing set in my backyard,
And seeing how fast we could go on the wavy yellow slide
I am from Christmas shopping every year with my Grandpa
I’m from the halls of Evening Street Elementary and Kilbourne Middle
to finally being at Thomas Worthington, then wanting to go back to my youth.
Although it is scary to grow up, I know that I will make new memories as I grow older
And I will always remember where I’m from.

  1. Some great memories here! As a revision, I'd love to see you take some of those memoreis and then add to them with a story or with details about that moment. Such as "Christmas shopping every year with my grandpa...as the cilly morning air whips across our faces as we stand inthe line of people jostling to push through the doors...or wathever it is that you do while shopping). Great memories!
